Uganda
Bwindi National Park
The park is located in the southwestern Uganda on the edge of the western rift valley. Bwindi is home to over 350 endangered Mountain Gorillas which are quite possibly the most awe-inspiring animals to be found in Africa. Gorilla tracking is the major tourist activity in Bwindi with four habituated groups available to tourism: Tracking in Bwindi can be challenging and therefore it is important to ensure physical fitness. Tracking starts at 8:30am local time and can last from a few hours to a full day depending on the movement of these giant apes. Time for observing gorillas is restricted to one hour.
Bwindi is also home to 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies.
Rwanda
Parc National des Volcans
Rwanda has a number of unique delights to offer travelers. Parc National des Volcans in the Virunga Volcanoes is the home to the mountain gorillas. There are seven habituated groups, most of which require a half day trek to reach. Time for observing gorillas is restricted to one hour.
